Marike Jager

Marike Jager is a well-known Dutch singer-songwriter and music artist. While backpacking through Australia as a teenager, she learned to play the guitar and gained experiences that would fuel her creative work for years to come.

A weaver of stories, Marike Jager is inspired by Feist, The Beatles, Fiona Apple, Beck and Tim Burton. She writes her songs on guitar, piano and a handmade music box and stands out with playful, adventurous and melodic finds. She has been nominated for multiple Edison Awards, was the guitarist in a Sam Smith video and worked with Grammy winner Tchad Blake (Tom Waits, Sheryl Crow, Crowded House) in the mixing of her records. She collaborated with hip-hop dancer Shailesh Bahoran for ‘Nederlandse Dansdagen’, surprised with the experimental duo ‘M ft. M’ (with drummer Martijn Bosman) and wrote a mesmerizing duet with Canadian songwriter Ron Sexsmith.

Beloved by her audience, Marike Jager never repeats herself. Over the past twenty years, she has built up an innovative, highly personal oeuvre in the Netherlands and abroad. Jager started her career with the Grote Prijs van Nederland, while her records earned four nominations for the prestigious Edison. As a highly acclaimed live act, she headlined several sold-out club and theatre tours and performed at all major Dutch festivals, bowing to thousands of slap-happy music lovers. Her oeuvre begins with the disarming debut ‘The Beauty Around’, followed by the more idiosyncratic ‘Celia Trigger’. Then her collaboration with Grammy winner Tchad Blake begins and she releases the cinematic album ‘Here comes The night’. Marike then records her most personal album in her own backyard, the intimate and acoustic ‘The Silent Song’. This album contains the enchanting ‘Don’t you’, a duet with Canadian songwriter Ron Sexsmith. After a short break she returns full of happy energy. Pregnant with her third child she brings us the uplifting ‘Hey Are You OK’. A thrilling indie labyrinth where sparks fly, inspired by Beck, Madonna and the crystal clear twang of a Fender Mustang. This journey continues on the experimental and rhythmic adventure ‘M ft. M’, a drums-guitar duo with drummer Martijn Bosman. Stay tuned for her next move!
